Wait to Upgrade to Catalina - Here’s Why

Do Not Upgrade to Catalina

If you are thinking of upgrading your Mac, or just upgrading the operating system, we strongly recommend that you DO NOT UPGRADE at this time.

Apple has recently released its new macOS 'Catalina' 10.15 and it has many problems including that Apple has removed the ability to run many long-standing applications.

If you upgrade your Mac or OS now you will find many third party applications will have problems and simply will not work.

This is not just our recommendation. Some of the biggest software publishers in the industry are recommending that you do not upgrade at this time.

If you were considering buying a new Mac we recommend to hold off until all the current problems with Catalina have been resolved. We will update you when these issues are fixed.

If you have already upgraded, we have a list of NCH Software programs that do work on Catalina here.

How to Use WavePad Audio Editing Software to Record Phone Calls

We’ve all heard that monotone voice recording when calling a company’s customer service line: “This call may be monitored or recorded for quality assurance purposes.” Whether it’s for personal use or an aspect of your business model, there is no doubt recording phone calls is a popular training method for businesses to analyze, review, and update their customer service skillset.

There are many advantages to recording phone calls. The most important one finds a direct correlation between improving the efficiency of your employees which ultimately leads to enhancing customer service and in the long run leads to higher revenues for your business. With WavePad, you can begin to record phone calls in 4 easy steps.

1. Compatible Hardware

Before you begin, you will need to download WavePad and acquire hardware that allows you to connect your phone to your personal computer, and start recording. You can visit our partnering website AltoEdge here to view available adapters that are compatible with your device.

The set-up is quick and simple:

• Using a telephone double adapter, split the phone line so that one line connects to a telephone and the other connects to your AltoEdge adapter.

• Connect the other end of your adapter into the sounds card's audio jack in the back of the computer. (The "audio jack" is the microphone (Mic) or Line In socket on the sound card. Some sound cards have both, in which case the Mic socket should be used. Otherwise the Line In should be used.)

• Download and install WavePad Audio Editing Software

2. Set Your Recording Levels.

Before you start recording phone calls, you must determine your recording levels. WavePad will inform you when/if your recording is too loud. This may take away from the quality of your recordings.

To set your recording levels, simply open WavePad then click the “Options” button on the “Home” tab. The WavePad Options Dialog will open:

Under the “recordings” tab, select your device and click the “Open Windows Record Mixer”

The following dialog will open:

After you double click on your recording device, the microphone properties menu will open:
The easiest way to adjust your recording levels is to call the telephone which will be recording and begin talking to it. This will get you a true read on the levels of your recordings and lets you hear a sample.

3. Begin Recording

Once your hardware and software are set, you are ready to begin recording phone calls. Make sure that WavePad is open before beginning your phone call. The easiest way to start a recording is using the shortcut key, F5 or simply click the record button at the bottom of the WavePad screen.

This is the screen WavePad will display when the phone call is live and recording:
Note that WavePad will continue to record even after you hang up. To finish your recording simply press ESC. This will end your recording.

4. Save your Recordings

Saving your recordings is important especially if you go back and review them when training your employees. To save a recording in WavePad, click the “Save” button on the Home tab toolbar.

You can also edit your recordings using WavePad. Get rid of unwanted sound and background noise. We offer a full list of tutorials for those that prefer learning using a visual style. You can check out our tutorials here.

This is all it takes to record a phone call with WavePad. It’s easy for anyone to set up and use.
