Green Screen Effect using VideoPad Video Editor

The green screen effect has long been a staple in film and video editing. With it, you are able to transform the scenery of any given video, to any extravagant location you can think of. From a sunset on the beach to the streets of Paris, the options are endless. With VideoPad Video Editor, adding this feature will make your video editing experience more intuitive and will set your projects apart.

Setting Up Your Screen

Before you begin the editing process with VideoPad, please make sure your green screen is set up in the location you want. There are many video tutorials that will guide you through setting up your green fabric.

The size of your green screen location should be large enough for your subject or subjects to fit, with additional space around them. Make sure the location has adequate lighting as shadows can often diminish the green screen effect and can alter your final project.

Once your green screen is set up, you are ready to begin shooting your video. It is very important for your subjects to refrain from leaving the green area. Keep in mind that the more centered your video is in comparison to the green screen the better your project will be. Maintain constant lighting and avoid shadows.

Editing Process

After you completed shooting your video, begin the editing process by downloading our video editor. VideoPad makes it easy to add videos. Simply click and drag your videos directly into VideoPad, or select the Add Files icon from the main menu to access your files:

Once your clip is in the media bin, click on the Effects tab on the main interface and select Video Effects. Choose the Green Screen effect option under the blending and Color Correction effects. This will add the green screen effect as a layer in the effects window:

Within the green screen effect menu, there are endless options to adjust your background. The Threshold, for example, will determine the precision in which your background colors are removed. The lower the threshold the fewer colors similar to your background this feature will remove.

The Feathering option will smooth out areas of your background where the background color blends with your subject. You often see this around your actor’s hair.

Save and share your green screen video once the editing is all finished. You can export your newly edited video by clicking on the Export Tab from the main interface. You can save your video to your computer or share it directly to YouTube.
