Upscale and Enhance Photos with AI Super Resolution
If you have ever tried to increase the size of your photo, you know that one of the biggest challenges with this is that the quality of the photo decreases and becomes unsharp and blurry.
This has to do with the resolution of an image. Since image resolution refers to the number of pixels within an image, this number is fixed. The number of pixels does not increase when you enlarge an image as there is no new image information added, thus decreasing the image quality.

Crop
While traveling, you won’t always be in the right place at the right time to capture the perfect moment. This leads to photos including unwanted elements which can be distracting. Cropping your image is another way of composing your shot by highlighting the subject.
Take this image of the hot air balloons in Cappadocia, Turkey for example. You can crop the image to focus on a particular subject or make it suitable for social media. To crop the image in PhotoPad, select the Crop button in the toolbar, and adjust your selection. You can also adjust the aspect ratio and resize your crop selection.
AutoFix
Exposure, Resolution, Saturation, Color Correction, Contrast - the photography lingo is endless and can take a while to wrap one’s head around it.

This however only works well as long as there isn’t a crowd of people or a lot of elements that need to be removed and the elements are against an unbroken and repeating background like the image of a tourist beside a field of grass below.
To use the Touch-Up tool, go to the Retouch tab and select Touch Up. The tool works by stamping material from one part of a picture onto whatever other parts you choose. Hold down the Ctrl key and click on the part of the picture that will cover up the tourist, in this case - more grass. This tool is also useful for removing dust spots, blemishes, and other imperfections. Works like magic.
Lens Distortion
If you have ever noticed your travel photos to be unnaturally curved inwards or outwards, your image is distorted. Commonly caused by a myriad of reasons such as the use of wide-angle/telephoto lenses, camera positioning or camera tilts. Regardless of the distortion type, you can easily correct it with PhotoPad’s Lens Distortion feature.
Under the Effects tab, select Lens Distortion where you can manually adjust the distortion correction accordingly, giving your pictures a more professional look.

PhotoPad Collage Editor
Launch the PhotoPad application on your computer. On the first window that opens, you will see a variety of different PhotoPad project types. Click on the option that says Collage to launch the PhotoPad Collage Editor.
Add Photos
The first step in learning how to make a picture collage is to add your images into the PhotoPad Collage Editor. Click on the Add Images...button on the bottom right-hand side of the Collage Editor window. This will open the file finder window so that you can locate and import your pictures into the program. You can also drag and drop images directly onto your collage to add them.
Adjust Canvas Size
Next, you will want to adjust your canvas size to determine the size of your collage. Under the Canvas Options tab, you can set the final output dimensions of your entire collage. You can choose from a variety of standard image sizes for both print and web. Try using 5 x 7 inches to create a postcard with your collage, or make it 8 x 10 inches for printing in a common photo frame size.
Background
Under the Background Options tab, you can select a background for your collage. Select the solid color option and then click on the Background Color bar to launch the Edit Colors window. You can then select and edit a solid color to be applied to your entire background. You can also choose from one of the many background textures/images in the collage editor to add a more exciting background to your picture collage.
Select a Layout
The PhotoPad collage editor comes loaded with over 30 different layout options. You can rearrange your photos within the layout by clicking on an image and dragging it to the position where you would like it. This will cause this image to swap places with the photo that is in that spot. Select the Free-Form layout option if you would like complete control over the size and positioning of your photos.

Once you have selected your layout, you can make further changes to the layout style by using the layout options adjustments. Drag the Spacing slider to adjust the spacing or padding between the pictures in your collage. Use the Rounded Corners slider to give the images in your collage the effect of a rounded corner. The Random Tilt slider allows you to make your collage look a little more fun and less organized by randomly tilting your images. Click on the Randomize Layout button to reshuffle the order of your images in the layout.
Image Options
Under the Image Options tab, you can remove and replace the pictures in your collage. Select an image and then click on the Remove Image button to remove that image. Then click on the empty space to launch the file finder window and find a new picture to take its place. The Move Forward and Move Back buttons can be used to adjust the layering order of your photos for layout styles that have overlapping images.
Create Your Collage
Once you are finished making your collage, click on the Create button at the bottom of the program. This will bring your finished collage into the regular PhotoPad Photo Editing application. Here you can add text or apply any additional effects that you may want. When you are ready to export your finished product, simply click on the File tab and select Save As...from the drop-down menu. Name your file, set your file type and output destination, and then click Save. Your new and eye-catching photo collage is now finished and ready for use.

To add text to a photo, open the image that you would like to use in PhotoPad. Under the Tools tab, you will find the Text button. When you click on the text button, your new text layer will open in the layers panel on the right-hand side of the program and your text box will appear on your photo. Use your keyboard to type your text directly into the text box. You can add as many text layers as you would like in order to move individual words or sentences around independently. |

Adjusting Your Text
You can move the text around your image by hovering the mouse over the edge of your text box until you see the 4 sided arrow. Then simply click and drag your text box into the position you would like. Use your mouse to resize the text box by clicking and dragging the white squares on the corners and in the center of your text box. You can also rotate your text using the curved arrow at the top of the text box. For a more precise rotation, you can type in the numerical value on your text layer in the layers and effects panel on the right. |

Changing fonts
To change your font, select a new font option from the drop-down menu on your text layer in the layers panel. You can choose from a variety of font styles and types and then adjust the font size. You can select to have your font in bold, italics, or underlined and then adjust the alignment of your font left and right and up and down within the text box. Changes made to your text are only made to text that is selected or that has just been typed after making the change. |

Styling Your Text
There are several different options for styling your text on your image in PhotoPad. You can add a drop shadow effect to your text by selecting the Shadow option on your text layer. You can adjust the sharpness and the distance of your shadow effect as well as change the color of the shadow. Use the Bevel and Emboss option to give your text more of a 3D look with rounded edges. You can choose to add an Inner Glow, and Outer Glow, or both to the text on your image. Choose the glow color from the color palette and adjust the intensity of the glow to your preference. |

Making Your Text Transparent
You can adjust the opacity or transparency of your text from the layer effects panel too. Changing the opacity of your text is a great option when you want your text to be a little more subtle against your image or when you would like to be able to see through it to the background. |

You can also select to have your text appear against a colored background. Checking the Background Color box will fill your text box with a solid colored background that your text will appear on top of. You can change the color of the background and adjust the alignment of your text against it. |

What is a PNG image?
PNG stands for Portable Network Graphics. PNG files are great for use on the internet because they support transparency and because they are compact in size. They are commonly used for web design elements such as icons and logos. PNG graphics are incredibly versatile in their web applications. They can be used against any background and can make adding graphics to websites and other design projects extremely simple. PNG graphics are easy to use and they also happen to be easy to make. With photo editing software like PhotoPad, you can make your own transparent PNG images for use in your next website or graphic design project. |

How to Make a PNG Image with a Transparent Background
If you are starting from scratch and creating your own graphic, making a PNG image with a transparent background is easy. Open your latest version of PhotoPad and create a new file with a transparent background to work on. You can create a new project file from the New Image Menu by pressing Ctrl + N on your keyboard and then selecting the option that says Transparent for the background. If you have already made a new blank project file in PhotoPad, simply go to the Edit tab, then choose Background and select Transparent. You will see that your white background has now been replaced with a faint grey and white checkerboard. This checkerboard means that the image effectively has no background. Any work that you do on top of the checkerboard will be the only thing that gets saved. |

Try visiting the NCH Clipart Library under the Creative tab to add clipart to your transparent design project. The Clipart Library is filled with fun and interesting images that are great for use in logos and other graphic design projects.

You can add text to your transparent background too. Under the Tools tab, you can select Text and then change the font, color, size, and placement of your text on your new graphic. Many modern logos use two different fonts or two different font sizes for their company name and tagline.

Removing the Background from an Image
If you already have an existing logo or graphic that you would like to make into a PNG image with a transparent background, no sweat. Open your file into PhotoPad and select the Wand Tool. The wand tool makes a selection by looking for the contrast between colors against the edge of your graphic and its background. You can adjust the level of sensitivity of the Wand Tool depending on how sharp the contrast between your image against its background is. Click on the background of your image with the wand tool to select it. We are trying to select everything that we want to get rid of. The wand tool makes one selection around the outline first. To select any additional elements you wish to remove, hold down the shift key while you click on those other areas in the image. It helps to zoom in close in order to select the smaller details such as the spaces inside letters like "O" and "D." |

Now that we have our background selected, we are going to simply press the delete key on our keyboard or right-click and select "delete". This will delete all of the selected areas in the image. In our case, that means it will delete everything except our logo. You will immediately see that the background has disappeared and in its place, there is now a white and grey checkerboard. The checkerboard means that there is nothing there anymore. So when we go to save our image, only the graphic will be saved and nothing else.

Saving an Image as a PNG File
Once we are finished making our background transparent, we are ready to save the image as a PNG file. Saving an image as a PNG in PhotoPad is very simple. Go to the File tab in the upper left-hand corner of the program and then select the option Save As... You can also get there by simply pressing Ctrl + Shift + S on your keyboard. Change the Save as Type: from the drop-down menu to PNG (*.png) and then click Save. |

Using Your PNG Image File
Now that we have successfully saved our graphic as a PNG file, it is ready for use on the web or in your next graphic design project. You will notice that when you preview the file on your computer, the background is completely gone. This will remain the case wherever you choose to use your new PNG image. Drag it directly back into PhotoPad to place it on any other image or background you would like, or upload it to the web for seamless integration on your website. |

We are very excited to announce a new Photo Browser option in PhotoPad Photo Editing Software. This highly requested Photo Browser includes larger thumbnail icons which make locating and opening photos a breeze.
How to use PhotoPad Photo Browser
The Photo Browser option in PhotoPad will allow you to browse the images on your computer in a gallery view. This can be very useful when locating a particular photo among a batch of photos on your computer, or when importing multiple photos at one time. To open a photo using the thumbnail gallery view, click on the "Photo Browser" button in the Home tab.
Navigate and Select Photos Easily
On the left-hand side of the Photo Browser, you can select a folder from your computer to view. The Photo Browser allows you to open photos from multiple folders. The images from the selected folder will appear as thumbnails on the right-hand side of the Photo Browser window.
Drag and Drop to Select Photos to Edit
To select a photo to open, drag and drop the photo from the gallery to where it says "Drag photos here to edit with PhotoPad".
Confirm Selected Photos
Photos that have been selected will have a checkmark overlay visible in the photo browser. The checkmark icon appears in the upper right-hand corner of photos which will be opened to edit in PhotoPad. This can be useful when opening many photos at once.
You can click on the checkbox in the upper right-hand corner of a photo in the Photo Browser to select or deselect the photo to be opened. If the checkbox has a checkmark, the image has been selected to be opened. To remove a photo from the bottom row of selected photos which will be opened, deselect this checkbox.
Photos can also be removed from the row of selected photos at the bottom of the Photo Browser by clicking on the "X" in the upper right-hand corner of the photo.
Open Selected Photos to Edit
To open the selected photos from the photo browser, click on the "Open" button at the bottom of the screen. All of your selected photos will be opened in PhotoPad where they can be edited and adjusted as needed.
After opening your photos, you can use PhotoPad to apply filters, adjust lighting, crop, retouch, and resize photos. We have a series of PhotoPad Photo Editing Tutorial Videos to help you get started editing.
